The Consumer Product Safety Commission has announced a recall of approximately 1.2 million portable ceramic space heaters sold at Walmart, Target, and Amazon due to a fire hazard caused by a defective thermal cutoff switch. The affected heaters, manufactured by Comfort Zone and sold between September 2024 and March 2026, may fail to shut off when overheating, posing a risk of fire.

CPSC reports that it has received 89 reports of the heaters overheating, including 14 incidents that resulted in fires causing property damage. Three minor burn injuries have been reported, but no deaths. The defective switch was traced to a component supplier that has since been replaced.

Consumers are instructed to immediately stop using the recalled heaters and contact Comfort Zone for a full refund. The recall applies to models CZ442WM, CZ442TG, and CZ442AM with date codes between 0924 and 0326 printed on the bottom label. The CPSC urges consumers to check their homes for the affected products, as many may have been stored away at the end of the heating season.
