General Motors has recalled 900,000 Chevrolet Tahoe, GMC Yukon, and Cadillac Escalade SUVs from 2021-2025 after discovering a software defect that could prevent front passenger airbags from deploying in a crash.

The Defect

A sensor calibration error causes the occupant classification system to incorrectly register an adult passenger as a child seat, suppressing airbag deployment. GM has received 15 injury reports potentially linked to the issue.

Fix

A software update will be deployed over-the-air for connected vehicles. Owners without OTA capability should visit dealers for a free software flash taking approximately 30 minutes.
