Hyundai Motor America has issued a recall for approximately 250,000 Tucson SUVs from the 2022-2025 model years after identifying a fuel line connection that can loosen over time, potentially causing fuel leaks and engine compartment fires.
NHTSA has received 28 complaints related to the issue, including 4 reports of under-hood fires. No injuries have been reported, but the fire risk has prompted NHTSA to open a parallel investigation. Hyundai is advising owners to park outdoors until the repair is completed.
The repair involves replacing the fuel line connection fitting with an updated design and applying thread-locking compound to prevent loosening. The fix takes approximately 1.5 hours and will be performed at no cost to owners at Hyundai dealerships.
Parts availability is expected to be sufficient for all affected vehicles within 60 days. Owners of affected model years will receive recall notification letters by May 15, 2026, with priority given to earlier model years that have accumulated more mileage.
Hyundai and its affiliate Kia have faced scrutiny for fire-related recalls in recent years, leading both brands to invest heavily in quality control improvements and extended warranty coverage for engine and fuel system components.
