IKEA has voluntarily recalled approximately 200,000 MALM and KULLEN dressers from the 2023-2025 production runs after receiving reports that the included wall anchoring hardware was missing from some units. The recall addresses ongoing concerns about furniture tip-over risks.

Six incidents have been reported where dressers tipped forward when children climbed on open drawers. Two injuries required emergency room treatment, though no fatalities have occurred. The incidents all involved units that were not anchored to the wall.

IKEA is providing free replacement anchoring kits with improved hardware and clearer installation instructions. Customers can request kits through the IKEA website or at any store location. The company is also offering free in-home installation for customers who need assistance.

Furniture tip-overs are a persistent safety concern, causing an average of 11,000 emergency room visits and 22 child deaths annually in the United States. The CPSC has enacted mandatory stability standards for clothing storage units effective in 2023.

IKEA has invested significantly in tip-over prevention since the fatal MALM incidents in the 2010s. The company's current designs incorporate wider bases and lighter materials in upper sections, though wall anchoring remains the most important safety measure.
