A federal judge has approved the $1.1 billion settlement in the Philips CPAP recall class action, bringing partial closure to one of the largest medical device recalls in history.

Background

In 2021, Philips recalled 5.5 million CPAP and BiPAP machines after discovering that sound-dampening foam could degrade and be inhaled or ingested by users, potentially causing respiratory issues and cancer.

Personal injury claims for severe health impacts (cancer, serious respiratory disease) are NOT covered by this settlement and can still be pursued individually.
