Federal health officials are investigating a salmonella outbreak linked to a major frozen chicken brand that has sickened over 200 people across 18 states, with 45 hospitalizations.
The Outbreak
- 218 confirmed cases across 18 states
- 45 hospitalizations, no deaths reported
- Majority of cases in the Southeast and Midwest
- Onset dates from February through April 2026
Affected Products
Frozen breaded chicken products (nuggets, patties, tenders) from a single processing facility. The USDA has not yet named the brand pending confirmation, but has issued a public health alert for frozen chicken products from a specific plant code. Check product packaging for establishment number "P-1234" (placeholder until official announcement).
Prevention
Always cook frozen chicken products to an internal temperature of 165°F. Do not microwave frozen breaded chicken — use an oven. Wash hands and surfaces after handling raw or frozen chicken. Don't assume breaded chicken is pre-cooked even if it looks browned.
