Tesla has issued a recall for 400,000 Model Y SUVs from 2024-2025 after discovering a steering column bolt that can loosen over time, potentially causing loss of steering control.
The Defect
An assembly error at Tesla's Austin factory left steering column bolts torqued below specification. While no crashes have been reported, Tesla identified the issue through warranty service data analysis.
Fix
Tesla will perform an over-the-air software update to detect bolt loosening through steering sensor data, followed by a physical inspection and re-torque at service centers.
