Tyson Foods has issued a massive recall of 8.5 million pounds of frozen and ready-to-eat chicken products after routine USDA testing detected Listeria monocytogenes at the company's Dexter, Missouri processing facility.
Recall Scope
The recall covers 42 product varieties sold under Tyson, Great Value (Walmart), and Kirkland (Costco) brand names nationwide.
- Products affected: frozen chicken nuggets, strips, patties, and grilled chicken breast
- Production dates: January 15 through March 28, 2026
- Establishment number P-7089 on the USDA mark of inspection
- 3 confirmed Listeria illnesses and 1 hospitalization linked to the products
Consumer Safety
The USDA classifies this as a Class I recall — reasonable probability of serious health consequences. Listeria is particularly dangerous for pregnant women, elderly adults, and immunocompromised individuals. Consumers should check freezers for affected products and return them for a full refund. Cooking to 165°F internal temperature kills Listeria, but cross-contamination during handling remains a risk.
