The FDA has issued a public health alert after a nationally distributed brand of granola bars was found to contain undeclared peanut protein. The affected products, sold under the Nature's Harvest label at major grocery chains including Kroger, Publix, and Safeway, were manufactured at a facility that also processes peanut-containing products.
The contamination was discovered during a routine FDA inspection that found inadequate cleaning procedures between production runs. Laboratory testing confirmed the presence of peanut protein at levels sufficient to trigger allergic reactions in sensitive individuals. No confirmed illnesses have been reported to date.
Consumers with peanut allergies are advised to discard or return any Nature's Harvest granola bars with lot codes beginning with NH-2026 and best-by dates between June and September 2026. The manufacturer has initiated a voluntary recall and says it is implementing enhanced allergen control procedures at the affected facility.
