Toyota Motor Corporation has announced a recall of approximately 180,000 hybrid vehicles across its RAV4 Hybrid and Camry Hybrid lineups from the 2025 model year due to an inverter software error that can cause the vehicle to unexpectedly enter a failsafe mode and lose power while driving. The issue has generated over 300 complaints to NHTSA, including 18 reports of stalling incidents on highways.
The software glitch causes the hybrid system's inverter to misinterpret temperature sensor data under certain high-load driving conditions, triggering an erroneous overheating protection response. Toyota says a software update applied at dealerships will resolve the issue in approximately 30 minutes at no cost to owners.
