The Consumer Product Safety Commission has issued an urgent recall of approximately 45,000 crib mattresses manufactured by DreamSafe Baby Products after testing revealed the mattresses can develop dangerous indentations that pose a suffocation risk for infants. The recalled models fail to meet federal firmness standards established under the Safe Sleep for Babies Act.
CPSC has linked the mattresses to two infant deaths and three near-miss incidents in which caregivers discovered babies face-down in depressions formed in the mattress surface. The affected mattresses were sold online through Amazon, Wayfair, and the manufacturer's website between August 2025 and March 2026.
Parents and caregivers should immediately stop using the recalled mattresses and contact DreamSafe for a full refund. CPSC Commissioner Maria Rodriguez stressed that infant sleep surfaces must remain firm and flat, and urged all parents to verify their crib mattresses against the recall list.
