Ford Motor Company has issued a safety recall for approximately 150,000 Explorer SUVs from the 2024 and 2025 model years due to a steering column defect that could result in loss of steering control. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration opened an investigation after receiving 23 complaints.

The defect involves a fastener in the steering column assembly that may not have been properly torqued during manufacturing. Ford says affected vehicles may exhibit unusual steering looseness or clicking sounds as warning signs.

Owners are advised to contact their dealers immediately for inspection and repair at no cost. Ford is prioritizing appointments for vehicles showing symptoms of the defect.
