The CPSC has issued a nationwide recall of approximately 500,000 smart plug adapters after reports of electrical shock when users touched the devices while they were plugged in. The units were sold by multiple online retailers under various brand names.
Testing revealed that inadequate insulation between the internal circuitry and the exterior plastic housing allows electrical current to reach the surface under certain conditions. Seven consumers have reported receiving shocks, with two requiring medical attention.
Consumers should immediately unplug the recalled smart plugs and contact the importer listed on the product packaging for a refund. The CPSC warns against continued use even if no shock has occurred.
