Amazon has issued a recall for approximately 85,000 portable battery chargers sold by third-party sellers on its marketplace after multiple units were found to pose fire and burn hazards. The recall covers power banks from brands TechPower, VoltMax, and ChargeElite, which were among the best-selling portable chargers on the platform during the holiday season.

Testing by the Consumer Product Safety Commission revealed that the affected chargers contain lithium-ion battery cells that can overheat during charging, potentially leading to thermal runaway, fires, or explosions. Amazon has received 67 reports of overheating incidents, including 4 that resulted in property damage.

Customers who purchased the affected products will receive automatic refunds through their Amazon accounts and are urged to stop using the chargers immediately. The recall highlights ongoing concerns about quality control for electronics sold through online marketplaces.
