Tesla has filed a recall with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration covering approximately 120,000 Model Y vehicles produced between April 2025 and January 2026. The recall addresses a manufacturing defect in the steering column assembly that could result in increased steering effort or, in rare cases, partial loss of power steering assist.

NHTSA received 156 complaints related to the issue, including 23 reports of sudden increases in steering resistance while driving at highway speeds. No crashes or injuries have been attributed to the defect. Tesla says the issue stems from an improperly torqued fastener in the electric power steering motor housing.

Affected vehicles will require a physical inspection and potential parts replacement at Tesla service centers. Owners will be notified by mail beginning April 28, and all repairs will be performed at no cost.
