VoltMax Energy has recalled 60,000 portable power stations after receiving 28 reports of battery cell swelling and two incidents of thermal runaway. The recall covers the VoltMax Explorer 1000 and Explorer 1500 models sold online and at outdoor retailers since September 2025.
The CPSC reports that the lithium iron phosphate battery cells in affected units may develop internal defects that cause dangerous swelling during charging. One thermal runaway incident caused a garage fire resulting in $50,000 in property damage.
Consumers are instructed to immediately stop using and charging the recalled units, store them in a non-flammable area away from living spaces, and contact VoltMax for a full refund. The company has also issued guidance to retailers to pull remaining inventory from shelves.
